Q: Who is Zoe?
A: Zoe is George's 4 year old daughter. Zoe loves meat so much that we created a company to ensure she is always eating the healthiest and most palette pleasing meats available.
Q: What are nitrites and nitrates and why do we try to limit our use of them?
A: Nitrites and nitrates are preservatives that are found in cured meats. Sodium nitrite or "pink salt," is an artificial preservative often used in the curing process and is needed to help preserve many meats. Though there is a great deal of debate on the effects of these preservatives, we at Zoe's try to use only naturally-occuring preservatives whenever possible. We do this through the use of things like celery extract and sea salt, which are nitrites that occur naturally.
Q: How do we support small business?
A: We first look to identify small businesses that are making exceptional products. We were looking to create products with artisans committed to quality and the values that were important to us. We wanted each of our manufacturer partners to have a track record of success and this meant that the business had been handed down from generation to generation. These manufacturers believe in our philosophy of using sustainably raised raw ingredients when possible.
Q: How do we support the communities we serve?
A: At Zoe's Meats community and family are two very important principles to us. To this end, we deliver to schools in our delivery areas at NO PROFIT. It is our hope that by eliminating distributor and manufacturers products we can provide children with better quality meats at a cost that is more affordable for schools. Additionally, when we sign up a new customer of any size, type or location, we ask them to identify a local school or community program to which they would like to donate 1% of their purchases. We then work with the schools to use the donation towards developing educational like school gardens and education about good nutrition.
